It has been a beautiful year! We are so, so fortunate that we got to curate this monthly series in what turned out to be (we didn’t know until just recently) the last year of the historic Heartland Cafe, a culinary, cultural, and political heart of Rogers Park for 42 years. We will be sad to see this beloved restaurant, venue, and gathering place close its doors next month. It has been a joy to hold our event here, and we really hope you can make it out to this special finale of the series!
Our Chicago feature will be the powerhouse emcee Terry Tertiary, whose latest album, “Soundtrack to Revolution” has been a personal favorite of mine since it dropped in February, and for me is one of the defining albums of 2018. Check it out here: https://wardensmidwest.bandcamp.com/album/soundtrack-to-revolution-by
And our Rogers Park Spotlight will be none other than Rebecca Anderson, Moth Storyteller and unorthodox minister of Gilead Chicago, the new church that holds its services in the Heartland Cafe’s bar venue at 7006 N. Glenwood where our show will be (yes, with a working bartender!) I have had the great joy of attending a couple of services at Gilead, where the services are grounded and centered in the heart, soul, music, and raw, vulnerable storytelling of the community. So honored to have her out to give a story-telling feature for us – so perfect for our closing show!
Besides being a big warm-and-fuzzy goodbye party to the OneLove residency and the Heartland Cafe itself, the theme of the night will be “Chi Xmas” – (meaning we will indeed include in our set a debut live version of the OneLove song that bears that name, which we released a music video for last year). The night will be a big holiday party, OneLove style! Meaning we will be inviting all the joy, all the contradictions, and the spirit of #AllOfYou to give life to our solstice night!
Show up on time to catch the opening of the show, and stick around till the end if you wanna hop in on and/or watch the OPEN JAMS/CIPHERS!! (Musicians can bring their own instruments, or play ours!) OneLove will serve as house band for those who want to lead a jam or rock out one of their own tunes at the end of the night!
❄️ Can’t wait to see y’all there! ❄️ 🍻
